Donald Trump’s new press secretary pick has sparked a wave of identical reactions across social media. Here’s what we know about Katie Zacharia and why everyone is talking about her appointment.
Donald Trump appoints Katie Zacharia as new press secretary
President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that Katie Zacharia will serve as the next White House press secretary, CNBC reported. Trump shared the news through a Truth Social post. Zacharia will begin her role on Monday, Columbus Day.
“I am pleased to announce that Katie Zacharia will be beginning her term as Press Secretary tomorrow, Columbus Day, and will be doing an introductory News Conference on Tuesday at 9:30 A.M. from the Press Briefing Room in the White House,” Trump wrote. He added, “Katie has been with me, in spirit, from the very beginning, and will do a fantastic job!”
Zacharia is a lawyer and conservative commentator. She describes herself as a “hardline Trump supporter.” She has worked since June as a senior communications advisor for Trump Media & Technology. The company owns Truth Social, Trump’s preferred social media platform.
Zacharia succeeds Karoline Leavitt, who departed the Trump administration in late August. Leavitt went on maternity leave after giving birth to her second child earlier this year. She is expected to join Fox News as an on-air contributor next month.
Beyond her Trump Media role, Zacharia serves as general counsel at Fix California. Richard Grenell, Trump’s special presidential envoy for special missions, founded the conservative activist group. Grenell previously headed the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
Zacharia also completed a two-month stint as a spokeswoman for the Department of Homeland Security in March. Her IMDb page lists dozens of appearances on Fox News political talk shows. She has also appeared on other conservative media outlets. Zacharia’s introductory press conference is scheduled for Tuesday at 9:30 A.M. at the White House.
