Kylie Kelce has revealed that she now knows how to address Kate Middleton correctly after facing backlash over her remarks on a previous episode of her podcast. For those unfamiliar with the controversy, during the September 24 episode of Not Gonna Lie, Kylie extended a warm invitation to the Princess of Wales to appear on her show.
She said: “Princess Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, if you ever wanted to come on and chitchat about some field hockey and maybe kids. I don’t know. We got a couple things in common.”
Kylie also pointed out that Prince William had previously appeared on the Kelce brothers’ New Heights podcast. Although the invitation appeared well-intentioned, fans criticized Kylie online for using an incorrect royal title when addressing Middleton.
During the October 1 episode of Not Gonna Lie, the podcast host addressed the backlash and acknowledged her mistake. She said: “I love learning, so I was unaware that calling Princess Catherine, Princess Kate, was offensive.”
The mother of four reiterated that she had learned from the experience and would make an effort to address people by the titles they prefer. She emphasized the importance of respecting how others wish to be addressed.
Directly addressing Middleton, Kylie then offered an apology, saying: “Princess Catherine or the Princess of Wales, I apologize. I will get that sorted immediately starting now.”
Notably, William and Kate assumed the titles of Prince and Princess of Wales after Charles ascended the throne and Camilla became Queen. Kate’s formal title is Catherine, Princess of Wales, and she is commonly referred to as the Princess of Wales (via PEOPLE).
