Simon Pegg reveals he mistook ADHD symptoms for personal flaws before his diagnosis

Simon Pegg appeared on the I’m ADHD! No You’re Not podcast, where he shared his experience. He explained how his diagnosis helped him understand a lot of his behavior.

Pegg initially believed the symptoms were “character faults.”

He said, “I felt like it was something that had come on in later life because I wasn’t a naughty child. I’ve had bouts of depression in my adult life since 18. And I thought maybe it had come on with that. Maybe over the years with therapy and medication – whatever. I’ve been treating the symptoms and not the cause of why I feel that way.”

Pegg added that he felt different but was not able to explain the reason behind it, thinking, “Maybe everybody feels that way.”

According to The Sun, He previously believed that ADHD kids were chaotic and didn’t pay attention in school.

He added, “But there were other things that I did do as a kid – fidget or whatever – that made me think, ‘Oh no, maybe I’ve had this longer than I thought.’” Pegg also praised his wife, Maureen McCann, for being supportive of his diagnosis.

He added that she has been “dealing with it,” as he believed that was simply how he is.  Pegg said, “She makes allowances for forgetfulness and lack of concentration.”

Simon Pegg, who is known for his role as over-achieving police officer Nicholas Angel in Hot Fuzz and Shaun in the cult romantic-zombie-comedy Shaun of the Dead.

He was diagnosed with ADHD later in life. His diagnosis helped him recognise how ADHD influenced his behavior, relationships, and everyday experiences.
