Andy Cohen had spent more than two decades surrounded by Bravo chaos, but his toughest critic was only 7. His son Benjamin knew his dad had “a show” and had already delivered the review Cohen apparently wanted most.
The Watch What Happens Live host shared the adorable verdict while discussing his children and career. Benjamin’s assessment was simple, but Cohen seemed perfectly happy with it.
Andy says son Ben knows about his TV career and thinks his dad is funny
PEOPLE caught up with Cohen, 58, at the 34th annual Broadcasting+Cable Hall of Fame gala in New York City. Asked whether his children understood what he did, Cohen said, “They know,” before explaining that Ben knew he had “a show” and thought he was “funny.” He added, “And so if he thinks I’m funny, then that’s good for me.”
Cohen has hosted Watch What Happens Live for Bravo for years. He also handles reunion specials across the Real Housewives franchises, making his children’s understanding of his job increasingly unavoidable.
Benjamin has also shown that he inherited some of his father’s comic timing. In 2024, Cohen recalled Ben suggesting “Get out of here!” whenever strangers approached the family asking for photos. Cohen laughed, then realized he had accidentally encouraged the idea.
He tried to workshop a more diplomatic response. Cohen suggested Ben say, “He’s my daddy, can we have our privacy?” The plan lasted about three steps. A stranger soon approached, and Ben immediately delivered the original “Get out of here!” line.
Family life has brought Cohen plenty of other parenting stories lately. On Sept. 28, he discussed babysitting costs with longtime friend Jeff Lewis on Andy Cohen Live. Cohen said he paid his 23-year-old sitter $30 an hour, while Lewis called that “cheap” and said he would have paid $100 for two hours with two children.
Cohen also opened up about his relationship with Kevin Sobieski in June. He said introducing Sobieski to Ben and Lucy had been “so slow, and deliberate and methodical.” He described Sobieski as “kind and strong and smart,” adding that he loved his children and they loved him. For Cohen, though, Ben’s laugh apparently remained the ultimate professional review.
