King Charles reportedly backed ex-Prince Andrew’s legal fight. According to a source, the monarch apparently agreed that his brother had the right to challenge the claims against him legally. However, it would allegedly not mean that he would “publicly defend” Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
For those unversed, Charles stripped the former Duke of York of his royal titles last year. Due to his past controversies, he also had to leave the Royal Lodge. Andrew further made headlines this February after his arrest.
King Charles backing Ex-Prince Andrew is not a show of ‘public support,’ per source
King Charles might back ex-Prince Andrew’s legal rights and nothing more. A source told Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice that the monarch backing his brother doesn’t imply that he would publicly support him. “Charles privately believes Andrew has every right to challenge the warrants if he thinks they were improperly obtained,” they said.
“But nobody should mistake that for public support. The King is staying completely out of this.” It came after reports of Andrew taking legal action against the search warrants for his two properties made headlines. It was said he wanted to challenge the British police in court. For those unversed, he was arrested in February on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
At the time, Buckingham Palace released a statement saying it would cooperate with the investigation. Now, according to the royal insider, Charles still has not abandoned his brother, even though the latter would seemingly like to challenge the warrants. But he also reportedly made it clear that he would not intervene or publicly defend his sibling.
“Charles believes he deserves the same legal rights as anyone else. But the King will not publicly defend him, criticize the police or drag Buckingham Palace into this fight,” the source said.
Meanwhile, Andrew has been staying alone at Marsh Farm at the Sandringham estate.
