FKA Twigs’ Legal Battle With Shia LaBeouf Takes Major Turn

FKA Twigs reached a new resolution in her long-running legal battle with Shia LaBeouf. The latest development gave the singer more freedom to speak about her own experiences. It also changed the terms of the agreement that once limited what she could publicly discuss. The case now appeared close to reaching its final stage.

FKA Twigs settles her lawsuit with Shia LaBeouf as their NDA is terminated and declared void

According to court documents obtained by the Daily Mail, LaBeouf agreed to end the nondisclosure provisions from the former couple’s 2025 settlement. The Los Angeles Superior Court filing said the NDA was “terminated and void.” It also alleged that the agreement violated California’s Stand Together Against Non-Disclosure Act. The 2018 law bars NDAs in settlements involving sexual assault, sexual harassment and sex-based discrimination.

The settlement allowed Twigs, whose real name is Tahliah Debrett Barnett, to discuss her own experience without fear of legal consequences. Her attorney Mathew Rosengart said, “Twigs stood up for something larger than herself, female survivors of sexual abuse.” He added that the result allowed her to “advocate for other women who might be less privileged” and support charitable causes. The settlement notice also called the development an important victory for women who speak about sexual abuse.

Twigs filed her latest lawsuit in March after LaBeouf sought money over an alleged breach of their earlier settlement. Their initial legal battle started in 2020, when Twigs alleged that LaBeouf sexually battered and assaulted her and caused emotional distress during their relationship. LaBeouf denied the allegations, but he previously said, “I have been abusive to myself and everyone around me for years.” The former couple met while making Honey Boy and dated for about nine months before splitting in 2019.

The parties settled the case out of court in July 2025 and dismissed the claims with prejudice in the 2020 lawsuit. LaBeouf’s attorney Shawn Holley said he wished Twigs “nothing but the best in her life and career.” Holley also said there was now “nothing to prevent her from continuing” to discuss the matter. The latest case was scheduled for a formal dismissal hearing on Dec. 4 at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse, according to a separate court filing.
