Chris Colfer is generating fresh hope for a Glee reboot. Ryan Murphy also recently confirmed that a script was ready to bring back the beloved show.
Chris Colfer explains why returning for a Glee reboot would be difficult without Naya Rivera
Ryan Murphy recently sparked speculation about a Glee reboot. The hit series, which starred Lea Michele, Darren Criss and more, lost three cast members after it ended on March 20, 2015, following six seasons.
“Well, funny you ask, because I just finished the script an hour ago,” Murphy told Entertainment Tonight last month. “We have a script. Brad [Falchuk], Ian [Brennan] and I, who wrote all the first two seasons, have written something.”
Meanwhile, Colfer, who played Kurt Hummel on the show, was candid about the possibility of a reboot. Speaking to Bustle, he hinted that he might consider returning.
Colfer said, “I know nothing and have heard absolutely nothing. I wish I did. It was a really tough show to do, and it would be really hard to do it now that Naya [Rivera] is gone. But I do know that Glee fans would probably come after me with pitchforks and jazz hands if I said no. So I don’t know, but hopefully I’ll have more information and I can actually think about it.”
Fans also appeared hopeful about a revival. One person wrote, “OMG!!! YESSSSSSS RACHEL BERRY WILL BE BACK.” Another commented, “Honestly a Glee reboot only works if the original cast comes back as the teachers — passing the torch instead of trying to recapture the same magic.”
Colfer was also asked whether he remained in touch with other cast members. He responded, “I talk to someone from Glee almost every single day. We have a lot of text chains going. It’s mostly a lot of funny memes and pictures of people’s kids, but we do try to get together as much as we can. I was so happy to see Harry shine. He is one of the greatest people in the world, and I’m over the moon that he’s getting to have this moment. I was sitting next to his daughter, and getting to watch her dad do that was pretty magical.”
