Creature of the Pines seems like a horror movie that is in the same tradition as Cloverfield and The Blair Witch Project. The trailer depicts a documentary-style story, blended with found footage, that follows a series of bizarre disappearances in New Jersey’s Pine Barrens.
At the center of the movie is a skeptical documentary crew that wants to investigate said disappearances. They conduct intensive field surveys and interviews to uncover the local lore about a cryptid connected to the vanishings. However, as they continue their research, something seems to be closing in on them, something that has been watching them since the beginning.

What do we see in the Creature of the Pines trailer?
The trailer for Creature of the Pines opens with a news report about a missing hiker named Olivia Marsh. The news reporter states that recovered footage from Marsh’s campsite has raised questions about her disappearance. The trailer then cuts to hand-held footage, possibly recorded by Olivia, showing her encountering a mysterious figure at her campsite and then running away.
The video then shows a succession of folklore experts discussing local stories, mostly about some sort of monstrous creature. It then cuts to a series of clips, likely recovered from the campsite, showing mysterious occurrences plaguing the campers.
More documentary footage discusses the various people who have gone missing before a text card informs viewers that the movie is “The True Story of Pine Hollow.” What follows is more footage of someone running through the woods, holding a camera. A town resident warns the people filming him not to answer if they hear anyone call out their name.
Chris Ruppert and Tyler Transue wrote and directed the movie. Greg Poppa, Eric Melaragni, Austin Green, and Kelly Warren play key roles in the found footage feature. The movie debuts on the horror streaming service Screambox on October 13.
