Jamie Foxx Gets Real About George Floyd Joke and Today’s ‘Sensitive’ Audiences

Jamie Foxx shared his thoughts on the controversy surrounding the George Floyd joke in Netflix’s Roast of Kevin Hart. The comedian also discussed how audiences had become more sensitive to certain material.

Jamie Foxx says he “didn’t like” the George Floyd material and decided to tuck certain jokes away

Jamie Foxx, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, shared his views about Tony Hinchcliffe’s George Floyd joke.

When asked whether he cut anything from the Halle Berry segment on his new Hulu special Take Care of Yourself, he said he had to cut everything from the segment.

Foxx added, “Because people became too sensitive. The roast was whatever you thought it was, but when they take the jokes so personally — and it is personal; I didn’t like the George Floyd sh*t at all — but when you see people respond to certain things, you go, ‘Okay, man, maybe we need to tuck that away,’ because I still want to keep it refreshed.”

Foxx said he did not want to offend anyone and ultimately did not get the chance to include the joke.

He said, “I didn’t get a chance to get this joke in, but getting older and watching Hip-Hop get old and watching some of my heroes get old. I watched this commercial, and it was Deion Sanders in a Pamper. This motherf**ker talking about Depends, and I said, ‘What the f*ck? That’s us now.’ Halle Berry [is talking about] menopause. I really am a Triple OG. It’s f*cked up.”

During the Netflix special Roast of Kevin Hart, Tony Hinchcliffe took a swipe at guests and made a joke about George Floyd.

He said, “The Black community is so proud of you. Right now, George Floyd is looking up at us all laughing so hard he can’t breathe.”

Hinchcliffe faced online backlash following the show. Foxx later shared his reaction to the controversial material while discussing his own stand-up special Take Care of Yourself.
