The Social Reckoning’s Aaron Sorkin Explains Why Movie Isn’t Actually a Social Network Sequel

Aaron Sorkin is returning to the world of Facebook, but The Social Reckoning isn’t a sequel to his 2010 film. The writer-director has explained how the upcoming movie connects to The Social Network without continuing its story directly. One familiar character bridges the two films.

During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Sorkin was asked what audiences should expect from the movie, given that it isn’t a direct sequel to his previous film. In response, he said, “I know there’s been a lot of discussion about whether it’s a sequel. It’s a follow-up.”

Sorkin continued, “It is another movie about Facebook by the same guy who wrote The Social Network, and one of the characters from The Social Network is in this, as if Henry Hill from Good Fella showed up in Casino.”

Sorkin also explained why he felt there was another Facebook story he wanted to tell. “I wasn’t looking to get back into the world of Facebook at all, but I was introduced to Francis Hogan. This story was irresistible. I just really wanted to make the movie in spite of the fact that it was about Facebook again,” the writer-director added.

What is Aaron Sorkin’s The Social Reckoning about?

The movie features a large ensemble cast, which includes Jeremy Strong as Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Burr as Charlie, Wunmi Mosaku as Raya, and Billy Magnussen as Teddy.

The cast also includes Betty Gilpin, Gbenga Akinnagbe, Anna Lambe, Aidan Laprete, Kelley Pereira, Nelson Franklin, Portia Doubleday, Patrick Fischler, Joey Brooks, Sierra Capri, and Tehmina Sunny.
