King Charles is allegedly feeling “worn down” by the pressure as he faces yet another controversy. The Bahamas National Reparations Committee has urged the 77-year-old to issue an apology for Britain’s role in slavery when he visits the Bahamas next month. This has added to the mounting number of scandals.
King Charles’ recent controversies are reportedly ‘wearing him down’
King Charles is reportedly at his “breaking point” with the Bahamas National Reparations Committee’s new demand. A senior royal source told RadarOnline.com, “The King has an extraordinary sense of duty, but there is no question that the relentless succession of controversies he has faced in recent years and months is really wearing him down.”
The source claimed that Prince Harry’s sudden relocation back to the UK created a “complicated situation.” It resulted in the Palace having to clarify the Duke of Sussex’s status as a non-working senior royal to avoid confusion about his position. Then, Charles Spencer’s memoir, “Swan Song: Diana, My Sister,” allegedly “reopened some of the most painful episodes of the King’s life.”
“Now there is another highly sensitive issue awaiting him overseas,” they continued. “Charles has spoken very strongly about the horrors of slavery, but demands for a formal apology and reparations take the matter into much more complicated constitutional and political territory.
“He carries on working because that is what he believes his role requires, but these controversies do not occur in isolation. One arrives before the previous one has subsided, and inevitably that takes a toll.” Since the day he ascended the throne, this marks the King’s first visit to the Bahamas.
Dr Niambi Hall Campbell-Dean, chair of the Bahamas National Reparations Committee, told The Mirror, “The link between the British Crown and slavery is undeniable. For King Charles to come to our island and not be prepared to apologise for the wrongs of the past is unacceptable. Our message is loud and clear, don’t come here empty handed.”
