Kate Middleton revealed the surprisingly domestic role Prince William plays at home, and it involves one very ordinary chore. The Princess of Wales said she loved washing dishes, while William handled the drying and their three children joined in.
The revelation came during Kate’s September 30 visit to West Sussex Minibus in Pulborough, England. The volunteer-led service marked its 50th anniversary while helping local residents stay connected and avoid social isolation.
Kate Middleton shares how Prince William helps her with this household duty
Speaking at Pulborough Village Hall, Kate said, “I love washing up [doing the dishes]. I really do,” according to The Times. When someone joked that she had volunteered for dish duty, Kate explained that William took the next step. “He does the drying. We are a good double act. And we get the children involved,” she said. The couple share Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, whom Kate said they get involved in the family chore.
Kate shared the detail after sitting beside 75-year-old Lynda Jones at the weekly lunch club. She said she wanted to attend “because I want to see what it’s all about,” as the gathering offered residents conversation and companionship. The outing also gave Kate a chance to meet 94-year-old Stella Drewett. She helped the new minibus user leave her home and board the vehicle before they headed to the weekly lunch club.
Drewett later joked that the lunch outing meant “one day of not cooking,” according to the Mirror. She also shrugged off the royal visit, saying, “I don’t know any celebrities,” after hearing that someone famous would arrive. Kate’s dishwashing admission also echoed Queen Elizabeth’s reported kitchen habit. Royal author Valentine Low previously told Hello!’s A Right Royal Podcast that the late monarch enjoyed washing dishes after barbecues at Balmoral.
Low said former Prime Minister John Major’s private secretary, Alex Allen, once tried to help. However, staff reportedly told him, “No no no, the Queen enjoys doing it,” according to Hello!. For Kate, the chore sounded like a family affair rather than a royal performance. Her West Sussex visit focused on community, while her kitchen confession offered a surprisingly normal glimpse into life at home.
