Jenna recalled bursting into tears after discovering George W. Bush had previously been engaged
Jenna Bush Hager appeared on Today with Jenna & Sheinelle, where she opened up about a family secret connected to an incident that once left her in tears. Jenna Bush Hager recalled the moment when she burst into tears after discovering that George W. Bush had previously been engaged.
Hager said, “My dad was engaged, and he called off his wedding.” She added further that her dad, George W. Bush, was young at that time.
Jenna recalled, “I got like a bad grade on a math test in the third grade, and I was like, ‘I bet you got bad grades too, Dad.’ He took out his memory box that my grandmother had made him, kind of a photo album, to show a report card. I saw a wedding announcement to someone who wasn’t my mom.”
“I started crying and made it about myself. As a third grader does,” she added
Although Jenna Bush Hager cried after learning about the incident as a third grader, she now looks back on it as a mature TV personality and author. This time, she praised George W. Bush for making the difficult decision to call off his engagement.
Talking about the story behind the 43rd U.S. president’s called-off engagement and later marriage to someone else, George W. Bush got engaged to his high school sweetheart, Cathryn Lee Wolfman, before he married Laura Bush. The two had been dating since their time as students at Yale University. However, they gradually drifted apart, which led them to call off their engagement.
