Kate Middleton Calls Athlete ‘Super Fit’ & Prince William Has One Question

Kate Middleton and Prince William shared another lighthearted moment during their latest visit to Leeds. While there, they met rugby players, families, and fundraisers honoring the legacy of the late Rob Burrow. While praising one athlete’s incredible endurance, the Princess of Wales set up the perfect opportunity for William to crack a joke.

Prince William joked about Kevin Sinfield’s grueling seven-ultramarathon challenge

Prince William‘s trademark humor was on display during the royal couple’s visit to Headingley Rugby Stadium in Leeds. At the venue, they honored the legacy of rugby legend Rob Burrow and met those raising awareness for motor neurone disease.

During the engagement, the Prince and Princess of Wales surprised Sir Kevin Sinfield, who is taking on his demanding “7 in 7: The Grand Finale” challenge. The former rugby star is running seven ultramarathons in seven days to raise money for motor neurone disease charities in memory of his close friend, Rob Burrow.

The couple praised Sinfield’s dedication after he completed the third day of the challenge. “Well done, you,” Kate Middleton told the athlete, while William added, “It’s been very special to watch.” Later, while chatting with young athletes, Middleton once again applauded Sinfield’s remarkable effort.

“He’s super fit. He’s doing seven ultramarathons in seven days; that’s a lot of running,” she said. That prompted William to respond with a humorous observation that drew laughs from those nearby. “If he can walk by the end of it, it’s going to be amazing. His poor knees,” the Prince joked (via The Mirror).

The visit centered on celebrating Burrow’s legacy. Additionally, the royal couple learned how Leeds Rhinos and its foundation continue supporting people affected by motor neurone disease through sport.

Middleton, patron of the Rugby Football League, also wished players well ahead of the Rugby League World Cup. She opted for a familiar green blazer paired with black separates. To complete the look, she accessorized with her Mappin & Webb “Empress” diamond earrings, a favorite piece she has worn on numerous royal engagements.

Meanwhile, William kept his look classic in a navy blazer and trousers as the couple continued their series of public engagements across the UK.
