Prince William’s ‘Ego’ Could Be Bruised by What Happens Around Prince Harry Next — Expert

Prince William could view the attention surrounding Prince Harry’s return to the UK as a distraction from his own public profile, according to royal broadcaster Ian Pelham Turner. His comments come as Harry and Meghan Markle settle back in Britain. Meanwhile, the Palace faces questions about the couple’s status and long-term plans.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have now spent around a month back in the UK after relocating from California with their children. Their return has sparked fresh debate within royal circles. A PEOPLE report published on September 16 quoted a Palace source saying, “The royal family still don’t know what their motives are.”

Royal commentators have different views on how the Palace should handle the situation. Some believe officials have made the Sussexes’ return harder, while others say the Palace needed to clarify the limits of their non-working status. Ian Pelham Turner told Fox News Digital that he believes Palace officials are deliberately limiting the way Harry and Meghan can operate in Britain. He argued that the couple wants a private family life while still having enough freedom to support charitable causes. “Harry and Meghan simply want to be left in peace,” Turner said.

He claimed that the couple wants privacy for their children and wants to continue some charity work without appearing to represent the monarchy. Turner also suggested that officials want to prevent Harry and Meghan from holding events that could look like official royal engagements. According to Turner, this approach could make it harder for the Sussexes to build a new life in Britain on their own terms.

The controversy grew after King Charles sent a letter through the Lord Chamberlain confirming that Harry and Meghan are non-working members of the Royal Family. Turner said he believed the letter was unnecessary. “In my mind, the act of clarification was not necessary,” he said, arguing that the decision humiliated Harry and Meghan. Turner also made a claim about how William might view Harry’s return to Britain. “William may see the return as a distraction from his popularity,” Turner said. He suggested that this could affect William’s “ego.”
