Jon Stewart’s ‘Stay on the Map’ Joke Targets Donald Trump’s Xi Jinping Meeting

Jon Stewart had a field day with Donald Trump’s hosting of Chinese President Xi Jinping in Washington. The Daily Show host broke down the summit’s most eyebrow-raising moments, from granite helipads to weapons offers.

Why Donald Trump’s meeting with Xi Jinping became material for Jon Stewart

Donald Trump’s three-day hosting of Chinese President Xi Jinping in Washington became prime material for Jon Stewart on The Daily Show, which aired Monday on Comedy Central.

Stewart mocked Trump for spending most of the visit pointing at various White House features while Xi appeared visibly unimpressed. The host highlighted the contrast between Trump’s pride in a granite helipad and China’s advanced infrastructure.

Stewart noted that Trump showed Xi the newly built $600 million White House ballroom, making the Chinese delegation the first visitors inside. He joked that Trump seemed more interested in selling Xi on renting the space than discussing policy. The segment also addressed reports that Trump offered to sell American weapons to China during the visit.

The comedian played a clip of Trump responding to the weapons claim by saying China would probably want to buy them because America makes “better equipment.” Stewart reacted with disbelief, asking how America manages to maintain its global standing. He pointed out that the topic of China sending drone and missile parts to Iran apparently never came up during the summit.

Stewart then turned his attention to Republican reactions, noting that several GOP senators expressed frustration with the visit’s lavish tone. Senator Roger Wicker said he would have advised against inviting Xi to Washington. Senator John Kennedy called Xi “one of the best liars I’ve ever seen” but stopped short of opposing Trump directly.

Stewart closed the segment by challenging recurring media narratives about Republican fractures within the Trump coalition. He singled out Senator Susan Collins, listing multiple occasions where she expressed concern but still voted with the party. The host argued that outlets should stop framing empty gestures of dissent as genuine opposition to Trump’s policies.
