‘The View’ Host Breaks Down Over Devastating Family News

Sara Haines is widely known for her role on the ABC daytime talk show The View. However, she was recently absent from the show for a heartbreaking reason, and the situation left her emotional. Sara later broke down over devastating family news.

Sara Haines reveals her father-in-law died after a week in hospice

On Wednesday, September 16, we noticed that the 49-year-old was missing from her show, The View. However, she appeared the very next day and revealed the reason for her absence. She also shared that her father-in-law had died after spending a week in hospital care.

According to Radar Online, Haines, while fighting back tears, said, “I wanted to share why I was missing yesterday. My father-in-law passed away.”

“He’s been in hospice for a week, so we knew it was coming. But I think the second that landed, it kind of allowed a load you’re carrying for so long to just … gush out,” she added. Sara Haines went on to reveal how heartbreaking the loss was for her husband, Max Shifrin, because he was extremely close to his father.

Sara said, “Max has been gone; he hasn’t seen the kids, and now he’s finally back. And we’re pouring love into him. But it was the most important person in Max’s life, and I think I learned about this man on my first date because it was everything.” “It was Max’s North Star, so it’s the chapter we’re in, and we all will be a part of this club eventually. But wow, it’s brutal,” she concluded.

For context, September 16, 2026, was not the only time Sara Haines went missing from The View. The host had also been absent on several emergency occasions, especially in July 2026, when a storm caused severe water damage and part of the TV host’s basement ceiling to cave in.
