The debate over the latest Sydney Sweeney ad campaign has taken another turn. This time, sports media personality Craig Carton weighed in with a blunt defense of the actress and criticism of those attacking her recent campaign for the sports prediction platform and trading app Novig.
Craig Carton defends Sydney Sweeney amid Novig ad backlash
Craig Carton has come to Sydney Sweeney’s defense following criticism surrounding her recent Novig advertisement. Speaking on The Craig Carton Show, the OutKick host dismissed the backlash against the actress and divided people into what he called two groups. “I’m going to separate people into two groups,” Carton said. “There’s going to be… crazy people. On the other side, I’m just going to refer to you as not crazy.”
The TV personality argued that the controversy over Sweeney’s commercial had been blown out of proportion. “The world’s going crazy when it comes to the photographs of Sydney Sweeney,” he said. “The world’s gone mad.”
The ad features Sweeney posing nearly nude while strategically placed sports equipment covers parts of her body. The campaign for the prediction platform has drawn criticism from some athletes and social media users. Some critics have argued that it sexualizes women’s sports and sends the wrong message.
Carton disagreed with those concerns. He also made comments by comparing criticism of Sweeney’s ad to public reactions surrounding the Lindsay Clancy case. “Crazy people hate Sydney Sweeney,” Carton said. “Non-crazy people love Sydney Sweeney.”
His remarks came after a Massachusetts judge declared a mistrial in Clancy’s murder case earlier this month. The jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict.
Sweeney’s Novig campaign has remained one of the entertainment industry’s biggest talking points. It recently sparked widespread online debate and briefly led to a drop in the actress’ Instagram followers before her numbers began recovering.
