Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday 2 promotion is at the center of a costly legal dispute. Newly reported emails allegedly show Minaj’s team questioning whether Republic Records had allocated enough money for her New York promotional week, with travel, hotels, styling, and production expenses quickly adding up.
Meanwhile, production company 24/7 Productions is seeking more than $275,000 from Minaj and her company. These are the expenses it claims it covered but was not reimbursed for.
Nicki Minaj’s alleged emails detail costly Pink Friday 2 promo expenses at the center of her $275K legal battle
According to TMZ, 24/7 Productions submitted emails as evidence in its lawsuit against Minaj and her company, Pink Friday Productions. The company claims it spent more than $275,000 on hotels, travel, and other expenses under an approved budget without receiving reimbursement. An alleged November 29, 2023, email showed a member of Minaj’s team discussing the promotional budget.
“The $250K allowance from Republic [Records] is extremely low,” the team member wrote.
The email continued, “It will cost her at least double that,” while noting that “hotels and transportation alone will eat up the whole amount.”
The proposed spending quickly added up. According to the alleged email, Minaj’s team discussed paying a videographer and photographer $3,000 per day. Over six days, that would have totaled $18,000.
The team also considered paying a seamstress or tailor $700 per day. Over six days, that would have added another $4,200.
Travel created another expense. The email questioned whether Minaj’s son would accompany her during the New York trip.
“Without her son, her normal plane rider is always over $2K each leg,” the team member wrote. They also argued that the $10,000 travel allowance appeared insufficient. The email noted that Minaj would spend several days in hotels, further increasing the projected costs.
24/7 Productions handled on-site management, travel, and staffing for Minaj’s appearances. According to the company’s lawsuit, it was hired for Minaj’s Jingle Ball 2023 performance and a week of promotion for Pink Friday 2 in New York.
According to TMZ, Minaj received a reported $650,000 for her Jingle Ball performance. 24/7 Productions claims it advanced more than $275,000 in expenses. It says that they were supposed to be reimbursed. The company is seeking more than $275,000 in damages in the lawsuit.
Minaj has denied personal responsibility for the disputed money. In a motion to dismiss, she argued that the contract at issue was between 24/7 Productions and Pink Friday Productions, not her personally. She even asked the court to remove her from the case.
The lawsuit remains ongoing, with the alleged emails providing additional details about the expenses 24/7 Productions says it incurred during the Pink Friday 2 promotional campaign.
