Volodymyr Zelenskyy reveals Sean Penn let him keep the Oscar until Ukraine wins its war with Russia
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who appeared on a CBS segment, showed the Oscar he received from Sean Penn. While discussing his favorite American movies, the president revealed Penn gave him his Oscar to keep until he wins against Russia.
Zelenskyy told Aidan Stretch that the actor offered him the Oscar during his visit to Kyiv. However, Zelenskyy initially declined the gift; Penn suggested he keep the Oscar until his country wins the war.
Zelenskyy recalled Penn saying, “You will give it back when you will win.”
While talking about his favorite movies and actors, Zelenskyy named Robert De Niro, The Godfather, Al Pacino, and Robin Williams among his favorites. He added that he loves watching old movies, which he finds easy to follow.
Zelenskyy said, “I saw everything, historical movies before the presidential term. Now, I don’t have too much time.”
He also accused Russia of trying to attack his presidential plane, saying, “In Moldova, my presidential jet was there, and that’s why they attacked Moldova. When we went back home, again through Chisinau, they did the same.”
According to Ok! Magazine, the claim was supported by Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr. Gahr said Zelenskyy was nearly hit by a drone in their airspace.
Zelenskyy’s CBS interview came after the Trump administration renewed its efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war.
Zelenskyy told Stretch, “[Vladimir Putin] has been lying for 30 years. I’m sure he says ‘I want peace, I don’t want this war, I’m ready to stop,’ something general he can repeat to them each day.”
As the diplomatic efforts to end the war continue, Penn’s unexpected gift has left everyone surprised.
The Oscar that Zelenskyy received was won by Penn for his role in Mystic River.
