Another fan commented, “Oh, no! I am so deeply sorry and moved! But I am sure that from now on, all angels in heaven will be wearing sequins.”
The news of Mackie’s death was first announced via Instagram. The post read, “It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that Mr. Bob Mackie passed away today. He lived his 87 years to the fullest, fulfilling his dream of being a Fashion and Costume Designer, which is all he ever wanted to do.”

Bob Mackie was one of the most celebrated designers in the fashion world. He was known for creating bedazzled, crystal-covered looks for artists such as Cher, Diana Ross, Tina Turner, and Dolly Parton. His iconic designs have defined the fashion world since the 1970s.
The designer and Cher’s collaborations began in the 1960s, with Mackie designing many of Cher’s memorable looks. In fact, he detailed the daring, bead-covered ensembles that became Cher’s signature.
Some of the looks he designed for Cher included her feathered 1986 ensemble. Cher’s iconic “naked dress” that she wore to the 1974 Met Gala was also designed by the designer.
