Netflix Denies The Gentlemen Post Was a Charlie Kirk Death Joke

Netflix came under fire over a recent post that some users believed made light of Charlie Kirk’s death on the anniversary of his assassination. Netflix UK & Ireland has since clarified that The Gentlemen Season 2 post was not meant to reference Kirk’s death.

Netflix denies its The Gentlemen season 2 post was referencing Charlie Kirk’s death after the message sparked backlash

On September 10, Netflix posted photos of The Gentlemen stars on X. The photos captured a scene where Eddie, played by Theo James, marries Italian countess Isabella, played by Benedetta Porcaroli. He later turns to see Susie, portrayed by Kaya Scodelario, walking out of the cathedral. The streaming service captioned the post, “Nearly did himself a neck injury.”

Several people questioned Netflix’s post because it appeared on the first anniversary of Kirk’s assassination. Some users believed the caption mocked his death. Kirk was fatally shot on September 10, 2025, while speaking at a campus event at Utah Valley University in Utah. Libs of TikTok wrote, “This is DISGUSTING Netflix appears to be subtly mocking Charlie Kirk’s ass*ssination on this anniversary of his death. Woke Netflix hates us. So glad I cancelled my subscription.”

Former Los Angeles mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt wrote, “This is the company financially backing Bonehead Bob Bonta and his jihad against Paramount, by the way.” Radio host Jason Rantz commented, “Seems hard to believe this is a coincidence. Absolutely disgusting.”

Netflix has since issued a statement insisting that the post was unrelated to Kirk. A spokesperson said, as per Metro, “This post directly references a plot point from our U.K. series, ‘The Gentlemen,’ which launched its second season on September 3. Suggestions that it has any link to sensitive real-world events are inaccurate and ludicrous.”

Tyler Robinson has been accused of fatally shooting the right-wing activist, the Christian nationalist Kirk, who criticized the LGBTQ+ community. The 23-year-old faces several charges, including aggravated murder. Prosecutors intend to seek the death penalty if Robinson is convicted. He has not yet entered a plea in the case.
