Prince William & Princess Anne’s Joint Appearance Comes After Prince Harry’s UK Return

Prince William and Princess Anne have been photographed attending King Harald of Norway’s funeral in Oslo. Notably, the Prince of Wales attended the funeral on behalf of his father, King Charles. On the other hand, Anne is reportedly attending the funeral in a personal capacity. Interestingly, this comes amid Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s return to the UK.

Prince William and Princess Anne attend King Harald of Norway’s funeral

Prince William and Princess Anne paid their respects to the deceased King Harald of Norway at his funeral in Oslo on September 9. While the future king represented King Charles, Anne is King Haakon VII’s godmother, the new monarch of Norway. Notably, she is one of his six godparents (via Town and Country).

William and Anne joined the funeral procession behind King Harald’s bier as they made their way from the Royal Palace to Oslo Cathedral. Interestingly, the aunt-and-nephew duo has scarcely been photographed attending a public state event like this. The British royal family has marked their presence at more formal occasions, such as the annual Garter Day service, or carried out their royal engagements.

Notably, Oslo Cathedral does not have enough space to accommodate everyone. Hence, neither William’s wife, Kate Middleton, nor Anne’s spouse, Timothy Laurence, attended the funeral.

Interestingly, King Charles and King Harald were second cousins because they shared the same great-grandparents – King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra had a daughter, Norway’s Queen Maud. Notably, this makes William and King Haakon distant relatives.

Fans on the internet lavished praise on the Prince of Wales for fulfilling his responsibilities as the future king. One user commented, “It would be good to see him be crowned the King next. He would make a great one. Even if ceremonial, one with presence and just the right touch.” A second user wrote, “They make the UK very proud!”

A third user chimed in, “Prince William and Princess Anne are so respectful.  They are wonderful representatives of the Kingdom.” Finally, one user penned, “Our beautiful Princess Royal does the most meaningful and sincerest of royal curtseys. Prince William is simply stunning as usual.”
