Whoopi Goldberg Steps In When ‘The View’ Audience Goes After Sen. Ted Cruz

“The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg had to reprimand the audience and set her expectations for them.

Goldberg urged the audience to be respectful of guests even when their interests and views do not align.

Whoopi Goldberg tells The View audience to respect Ted Cruz despite their boos

According to TMZ, the audience erupted in boos when Goldberg dropped the name of Sen. Ted Cruz. The EGOT was discussing a Republican event in Texas and mentioned that Ted Cruz would be appearing on the show.

As the audience responded with boos and groans, Goldberg cut right in. “Ah-ah, no, no,” Goldberg said, shutting down the reaction. She explained that the hosts may not agree with every guest, but everyone deserves respect. Goldberg also reminded them that Barbara Walters created “The View” as a place where people with different viewpoints could have a conversation.

“We don’t agree with them always. We don’t gel with them always, but we are respectful,” Goldberg told the crowd. She added that she expected the same courtesy from them.

She jokingly asked the audience to treat the urge to boo like a burp and “swallow it back down.”

The moment came just as The View kicked off its 30th season with Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Alyssa Farah Griffin and Ana Navarro.

Cruz, a Republican senator from Texas since 2013, was among the political guests scheduled to appear during the show’s 30th season. He also ran for president in 2016.

ABC describes “The View” as a destination for conversations with celebrities, newsmakers and politicians. Cruz was scheduled to appear on the show on Sept. 9.

Ted Cruz’s attendance will also follow the show’s long-standing tradition of hosting key political figures for conversation and debate.
