HBO Max’s medical drama fans can relax. One of the emergency department’s most reliable doctors is not leaving anytime soon. Viewers were worried after reports said one of its core cast members had taken a major new role on network TV.
However, according to Deadline, fans will not have to say goodbye to Dr. Yolanda Garcia yet. Alexandra Metz, who has played the dedicated doctor throughout the series, is expected to return for The Pitt Season 3.
In TV production, taking on a major role elsewhere can often mean a cast member is leaving or will have a smaller role. But that won’t be the case for Metz. With the new season set to bring more intense shifts to the Pittsburgh trauma center, losing a fan-favorite resident might have affected the show’s popularity to some extent.

Alexandra Metz’s new TV role won’t keep her away from The Pitt
Questions about Alexandra Metz’s availability came up after the actress landed a key role on ABC’s hit crime drama, Will Trent. The series, based on Karin Slaughter’s bestselling book series, is a major new addition to her schedule. The new gig raised concerns about possible scheduling conflicts between the two high-profile productions.
Despite her new TV commitment, the production teams have worked out the schedules so Metz can continue appearing in both shows. She will balance her role on Will Trent with her work on the medical drama. It would allow both stories to use her character without prematurely ending her storyline.
As Dr. Yolanda Garcia, Metz has become an important part of the hospital’s staff. Her character often plays an important role in emotional storylines that show the difficult realities of working in emergency medicine.
Keeping Metz also helps keep the show’s story consistent in Season 3 of The Pitt, which continues to follow the busy Pittsburgh emergency room led by Noah Wyle’s Dr. Michael Robinavitch.
