Forgotten PG-13 Horror Remake Starring Brittany Snow Releases on Netflix Today

A forgotten PG-13 horror remake starring Brittany Snow arrives on Netflix today. Prom Night brings the 1980 slasher remake back to streaming after its 2008 theatrical release.

The movie is available on Netflix beginning September 9, 2026. Subscribers can watch it through the platform once the title goes live in their catalog.

Alongside Snow, the cast includes Scott Porter, Jessica Stroup, Dana Davis, Collins Pennie, Kelly Blatz, James Ransone, Brianne Davis, Kellan Lutz, and Mary Mara. The movie has an 88-minute runtime, making it a relatively quick watch for horror fans.

Prom Night brought a modern twist to a horror franchise

Prom Night reworks the 1980 slasher into a standalone story focused on Donna Keppel. The remake instead follows Donna as she confronts the killer responsible for her family’s murder.

Three years before her prom, Donna watched as an obsessed predator murdered her family. Her former teacher, Richard Fenton, was responsible and was eventually sent to prison. Fenton later escapes from prison and begins searching for Donna. His return turns what should be a special night into a dangerous fight for survival.

Snow plays Donna, while Porter portrays her boyfriend Bobby. Stroup appears as Claire, with Johnathon Schaech playing Fenton and Idris Elba as Detective Winn. Nelson McCormick directed the movie from a screenplay by J.S. Cardone. Dana Davis, Collins Pennie, Kelly Blatz, James Ransone and Kellan Lutz also appear.

The remake took a softer approach than many contemporary slasher movies. It received a PG-13 rating for violence, terror, sexual material, underage drinking and language. The film nevertheless performed well at the box office.

Prom Night opened in April 2008 with $20.8 million domestically during its first weekend. It finished its theatrical run with $43.87 million domestically and $57.2 million worldwide. The reported production budget was $18 million.

Reviews were largely negative. The movie currently has a 9% Tomatometer score from 68 critics and a 38% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

For anyone searching for Prom Night on Netflix, the 2008 remake is now getting another streaming run. Its arrival also gives viewers a chance to revisit Snow in one of her early leading horror roles
