The Halloween video game has become extremely controversial ahead of its official launch this week. Recently, the development team at IllFonic issued a hotfix that removed a problematic gameplay mechanism.
Apparently, Halloween: The Game featured a power-up minigame where two characters were able to get buffs by having sex after hiding in a closet together. There was a prompt to ‘Ask Out’ other characters, and if the offer was accepted, they would gain buffs by getting intimate.
The game recently launched in an Early Access phase where several users noticed that the minigame even enabled older characters to have sex with teens or even minors, thus triggering a backlash online.
Players quickly zeroed in on the game’s most questionable feature
A lot of people observed that the Halloween game allowed older playable characters such as Doctor Samuel Loomis, aged 70, to engage in sexual activity with Haddonfield teenagers in a closet. In other cases, a minor character, Laurie Strode, was also spotted inside the closet and having sex with older characters to receive the ‘Stronger Together’ buff.
Following growing backlash, llFonic‘s team had to issue a statement after removing the minigame. “Players may have noticed that our latest hotfix removed the Two-Person Power-Up minigame. This was due to an unintended issue that allowed end game reinforcement characters to engage with the minigame, which was a major oversight on our part.”
Meanwhile, the statement mentioned “more content and minigames coming in the near future,” but the current focus stays on fixing the most crucial aspects, reports Bloody Disgusting.
The survival horror title’s main plot involves players taking on the roles of both Michael Myers and his civilian victims. There’s a single-player mode alongside an asymmetrical 1v4 multiplayer mode. Both modes take place inside the same location from the original Halloween movie by John Carpenter.
The Halloween game will be fully released on September 8, 2026, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
