Nicole Kidman’s Hollywood Dream Role Comes With One Brutal Problem

Nicole Kidman expressed her disappointment over never landing a role in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films. The Oscar-winning actress said she would have been thrilled to join the franchise, which features stars including Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, and Rebecca Ferguson.

Nicole Kidman calls it ‘devastating’ that Denis Villeneuve has never asked her to work with him

During a candid conversation with her Magic co-star Sandra Bullock, Kidman opened up on Vogue’s Off The Cuff YouTube series. As Kidman and Bullock talked about their next career moves, the conversation turned to dream projects. The 59-year-old revealed, “I’d love to be in the Dune sequel. I’m a ‘Dunie.’ I’m obsessed,” she said

Bullock wondered why Kidman had never joined Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films. Kidman shook her head before quietly responding to her cards. She said the director had never asked her to join his Dune trilogy. “Denis never asked me to be in it, I think. It’s devastating.” She then added, “I actually don’t want to be in it because I just want to watch them,” to which Bullock replied, “You wouldn’t like the sand.”

Dune: Part One hit theaters globally in September 2021. Three years later, Dune: Part Two debuted on March 1, 2024. Dune: Part Three is currently set for release on December 18. The film will complete Villeneuve’s trilogy based on Frank Herbert’s books. The next chapter of Dune introduces two new characters, with Isaach de Bankolé cast as Farok and Robert Pattinson as Scytale.

Meanwhile, Kidman is also gearing up for the return of Practical Magic. She and Bullock will reprise their roles as sisters Gillian and Sally Owens in Practical Magic 2, which begins its global theatrical release on September 9, followed by its U.S. debut on September 10. Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest are also returning as Frances and Jet.
