Brad Pitt jokingly declared that George Clooney dancing is one thing fans should never expect to see. Laura Dern read Pitt’s humorous message during the opening night of the 83rd Venice International Film Festival. The ceremony honored Clooney with the prestigious Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement.
According to HuffPost, Pitt praised nearly every aspect of Clooney’s personality before delivering the punchline. “He can do, perform, accomplish, compete at most anything and does it better than any of us, but please, keep him off the dance floor,” Dern read on Pitt’s behalf. Pitt went on to describe Clooney as “a rogue, a prankster, an altruist, an actor, an athlete,” before calling him “a really bad dancer.”
Dern also paid tribute to Clooney during the ceremony, describing him as “a man of the deepest kind of humanity and integrity.” She applauded his work as an actor, filmmaker, producer, and activist while also calling him one of the funniest friends anyone could have. She even reminded the audience that Clooney has been named People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” twice.
The latest exchange adds another chapter to the friendly banter between Clooney and Brad Pitt, who have often teased each other in public over the years. The duo most recently reunited on screen in the 2024 thriller “Wolfs“, marking their first film together since 2008’s Burn After Reading. Wolfs also premiered at the Venice International Film Festival last year.
Their playful friendship has been on display for years. In 2022, after Pitt called Clooney one of Hollywood’s most handsome men, Clooney joked on The Late Show that Pitt originally named himself. The lighthearted ribbing continues to be one of Hollywood’s longest-running friendships.
