Stephen King‘s debut horror novel, Carrie, is coming to Prime Video in the form of a new series next month. The most acclaimed adaptation of the novel to date was Brian De Palma’s film adaptation released in 1976. Showrunner Mike Flanagan, known for The Haunting of Hill House, is attached to the Prime Video series.

A series based on the horror novel Carrie by Stephen King will arrive on Prime Video on October 7. Showrunner Mike Flanagan is helming the series.
An official teaser for the reboot dropped on YouTube in July with the description, “She just wanted a friend. They gave her a fight. All episodes of Carrie, a new series from Mike Flanagan, premiere October 7 on Prime Video.” While it was reported that King was initially skeptical about the series, Flanagan convinced him by saying he would take a different approach.
He revealed at San Diego Comic-Con, “I kind of feel like that’s the question everyone has: ‘Why do Carrie again? And why do it like this?’ I’m not going to Stephen King without an amazing answer to that question, because it was also the first question that Steve had when I said, ‘I think this could be amazing.'” Flanagan stated that King got excited for the series after he told the author that he would “take [the story] apart into its essential pieces and use that to build something new,” (via People). King also serves as the series’ executive producer.
Although the showrunner teased the idea of more seasons, he added that he doesn’t want to speculate about the series’ future or what Prime Video plans to do with it. He said that, instead, his current priority is to “make these eight episodes as great as I can from start to finish.” Flanagan also said he wants to make sure the series is “perfectly satisfying” for both fans and King (via EW).
