After a decade of awkward dates and celebrity interviews, Amelia Dimoldenberg is closing the chapter on Chicken Shop Date. What began on YouTube in 2014 went on to build a following of over 4.4 million followers.
Amelia Dimoldenberg is officially walking away from Chicken Shop Date to move on to a new adventure
Dimoldenberg shared the announcement with her followers across all her social media platforms on September 3. The 32-year-old began by writing, “When I was 17, I thought that I might meet the love of my life on a date in a chicken shop. Since then, I’ve spent my entire twenties sitting across from the most incredible people, people I’d always dreamt of meeting. All of them charmed me (some more than others), and I definitely charmed them.”
She added, “To me, the show is my very own romcom, and I have loved being able to share it with you. I am so grateful to everyone who has followed me on this journey and found a bit of joy in these episodes.” She also confirmed that the audience can still expect a few more awkward celebrity dates before she brings the show to an end.
Following the update, fans quickly flooded social media with emotional reactions, mourning the end of an era. A fan wrote, “An entire generation of British artists is about to lose their only excuse for awkward eye contact.” Another said, “I suppose it is time to move on to bigger and better things, but I will still miss you on your ‘Chicken Shop Date’ show, Amelia.”
Over the years, Dimoldenberg’s Chicken Shop Date has hosted an impressive list of A-list guests, from Andrew Garfield and Cynthia Erivo to Idris Elba, Paul Mescal, Harris Dickinson, Louis Theroux and Jack Harlow. She produced the series through her Dimz Inc. label.
However, the end of the series won’t be the end of Dimoldenberg’s on-screen career. Dimoldenberg announced in February on Instagram that she would star in and produce an upcoming romantic comedy for Amazon MGM Studios’ Orion Pictures.
