A blockbuster from the 2000s starring Megan Fox is getting renewed attention on streaming. With its combination of giant robots, young heroes, romance, and epic-scale action, the 2007 movie Transformers is clearly still appealing to viewers.
Transformers enters streaming top 10 on Paramount+
FlixPatrol currently places the 2007 movie Transformers among Paramount+’s top 10 movies in the United States, alongside titles including Top Gun: Maverick, The Hangover, and Jack Reacher.
In the film, Sam Witwicky, played by Shia LaBeouf, stumbles onto a secret tied to the Transformers’ ancient feud, drawing him into the longstanding war between Optimus Prime and the Autobots and Megatron and the Decepticons. Michael Bay directed the movie, and it was released on July 3, 2007, with Megan Fox starring as Mikaela Banes alongside LaBeouf. The ensemble cast also features Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, John Turturro, Jon Voight, and Anthony Anderson.
The film made over $709 million at the global box office. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film currently holds a score of 57% from critics and 85% from audiences. Writing in a positive review of the movie for Slate, critic Dana Stevens noted that the film “has a lightness of tone, an affection for its own cheesiness, also highlighting that “even attempting to recap the story is fun.”
The success of the film spawned four sequels with Bay returning to direct: Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Transformers: Age of Extinction, and Transformers: The Last Knight. Megan Fox, however, only returned for the first of these sequels, Revenge of the Fallen, before departing the franchise. She later reunited with Hasbro, Paramount Pictures, and Bay for the 2014 movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and its sequel, Out of the Shadows.
Several future projects in the Transformers franchise are reportedly in the works, with Bay producing one of the films currently being written.
