Woods avoided a DUI conviction through a plea agreement, although the deal still carries a major consequence resulting in a five-year suspension of his driver’s license.

Speaking with Fox News Channel’s Peter Doocy on Wednesday, Trump focused less on the crash itself and more on the circumstances surrounding Woods’ condition. The president said Woods suffers “great pain” and argued that his long-running back problems helped explain why he used prescription pain medication.
Trump also noted that Woods did not test positive for alcohol. “They didn’t find alcohol on him,” he said, adding that Woods “didn’t test positive at all for alcohol.” Trump called the plea agreement fair and said Woods should have someone else drive him in the future. He added that he had previously encouraged Woods to hire a driver.
Woods reached the agreement five months after a rollover crash on Jupiter Island. Rather than fight the case through trial, he pleaded no contest to willful, wanton reckless driving, second offense, and accepted a careless driving citation. Authorities also suspended his license for five years.
Tiger Woods’ March crash quickly turned into a legal headache after his Land Rover lost control, struck a truck, and ended up on its side. Woods walked away unhurt, but his explanation raised questions. He told a deputy that he had glanced at his phone while switching the radio station. A Breathalyzer showed no alcohol in his system, although authorities said he refused to provide a urine sample. Deputies also said they found two pain pills and observed what they considered signs of impairment.
The initial allegations included DUI and refusing a chemical test, charges Woods disputed. Months later, he made a public return in June when he attended a PGA Tour event and helped announce planned adjustments to the 2028 schedule. Woods reportedly told officers at the scene that he had been on the phone with Donald Trump when the accident occurred.
