Grand Theft Auto 6 just broke a streaming record before the game even launches. The upcoming Rockstar Games title dominated Netflix‘s global charts with its extended look, signaling massive demand ahead of its November release.
GTA 6’s Netflix viewership is massive
Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto 6 extended look has dominated Netflix’s charts, Variety reported. The 27-minute special pulled in 31.1 million views between its Thursday, August 27, debut and Sunday, August 30. Netflix ranked the content under its English-language film list for the week.
The extended look claimed the No. 1 spot in 87 of 93 countries Netflix tracks globally. This marks an entirely new category of entertainment for the streaming platform. The special debuted exclusively on Netflix before arriving on YouTube six hours later.
Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look has also surpassed 17 million views on Rockstar Games’ YouTube channel alone. However, Netflix and YouTube count views very differently. Netflix defines a view as total hours viewed divided by runtime, while YouTube counts any play as a view.
The content was captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5. Rockstar Games plans to release GTA 6 for PS5 and Xbox Series X and S on November 19. The special represents the lengthiest look fans have received at the game, following two trailers over three years.
It features protagonists Jason and Lucia in both cinematic and gameplay scenes throughout fictional Vice City. The special also teases the overall narrative of the upcoming title. Coming in at a distant second on the Top 10 English-language movies list was The Whisper Man with 23.2 million views. On the TV side, the documentary Death of the Pastor’s Wife took No. 1 with 19 million views. Meanwhile, Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black Season 3 followed as the runner-up with 13 million views.
GTA 6 releases on November 19, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X and S.
