One of Megan Fox‘s most influential movies arrives on Hulu today. The film is one of the few modern classics making its way to Disney+ and Hulu for their September slate.
Jennifer’s Body, the 2009 comedy horror, is available to stream on Hulu starting today. The cast includes Fox, along with Amanda Seyfried, Johnny Simmons, J. K. Simmons, Amy Sedaris, and Adam Brody, among others.
What is Megan Fox’s Jennifer’s Body movie about?
Jennifer’s Body follows Fox’s Jennifer Check and Seyfried’s Anita “Needy” Lesnicki. When a demonic ritual involving Check is botched, she becomes possessed by an entity that wreaks havoc on the town of Devil’s Kettle, Minnesota. The film received a lukewarm critical reception, but has since received a cult following among horror and Fox’s fans. Diablo Cody, who penned the script for the first film, expressed interest in a sequel in 2024. It was directed by Karyn Kusama.
Against its $16 million budget, Jennifer’s Body collected $31.6 million at the box office. In recent years, there has been a resurgence of interest in the film, especially as it holds up in feminist filmmaking. There was also a lot of speculation about why the film failed to perform at the box office.
Some corners of the internet pointed to the film’s hard R-rating despite being aimed at a teen audience. Others believe the film was simply marketed, with execs allegedly believing it would appeal to boys drawn to Megan Fox, who had earned widespread praise for her performance in Michael Bay’s 2007 hit Transformers.
The film arrives just in time for spooky season. Other horror-adjacent films seem to be on their way to the platform as well, as entries to the streamer later this month include Paranormal State on September 3, and MonsterQuest on September 10.
