Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are entering a new phase in their long, complicated relationship with the royal family. Amid their recent relocation to the UK, the couple appeared to be making efforts to bridge the gap between their California life and the royal family they stepped away from, with the plan hinging on Meghan meeting Harry halfway.
Prince Harry persuaded Meghan Markle ‘to ease up on the royal family’ amid UK return, per source
According to OK! Magazine, Prince Harry is said to have urged Meghan Markle toward a middle ground that could help thaw the couple’s relationship with the royal family following their recent visit to the UK. In July, the Sussexes, along with their children, Archie and Lilibet, traveled to Highgrove to see King Charles. This was the monarch’s first time seeing his California-based grandchildren in four years. The visit came on the heels of Harry’s engagements promoting the Invictus Games.
The trip followed weeks of uncertainty over whether Meghan would join Harry at all. Additionally, reports of friction surfaced after his expected stay at Buckingham Palace fell through due to insufficient notice. However, a source reported that Harry saw the reunion as “an important opportunity to rebuild trust with his family.” As a result, he has been working towards avoiding “misunderstandings” that have strained their relations during recent years.
It has also been reported that Charles made it clear that any reconciliation would occur on the royal family’s terms, with limited room left for further compromise. The source added that Harry, too, “understands this may be the last realistic chance to repair the damage.” Moreover, he has reportedly urged Meghan to embrace a spirit of compromise to “rebuild trust with the family.”
Royal watchers have described the visit at Highgrove as a symbolic gesture of goodwill. Harry’s efforts to bring Meghan around are being viewed as “meaningful” to the trip happening at all. An insider observed, “Harry persuading Meghan to ease up on the royal family has essentially led to them returning to the U.K, and he hopes relations between him and his family can only get better from now on, now he has her on board.”
Neither Buckingham Palace nor representatives for the Sussexes have publicly commented on the trip or the claims surrounding it.
