However, that version of events was quickly disputed. A source who was apparently present at the dinner told PEOPLE that Stewart’s account was “simply untrue.” They claimed Markle did not discuss the royal reunion in detail. She allegedly only said that her family had a great time during the trip.
That distinction is important, according to Olivia Bennett, Digital PR Director at Go Up. Speaking to Express, Bennett stressed that there is no way to know exactly what was said. “None of us actually know what Meghan said at that dinner,” she explained. Bennett added that she would not treat the allegation as fact because Stewart’s version has been disputed.
Still, the expert believes the situation could have consequences if Stewart’s account were accurate. “If Martha’s version is right and Meghan was discussing details of that reunion socially, then yes, I do think that could cause problems for Harry,” Bennett said.
Her reasoning centers on trust. Harry has reportedly been trying to improve his relationship with his father. Therefore, keeping private conversations private could be especially important while those ties are being rebuilt. “Discretion is going to matter enormously,” the expert added.
