Sony’s supernatural horror sequel Insidious 6 has crossed a major box office profitability threshold in record time. The sixth installment achieved this despite opening far below its immediate predecessor. It is now viewed as a seventh movie as an inevitability rather than a question.
Insidious 6’s box office isn’t as high as The Red Door’s, but it’s still profitable
Insidious: Out of the Further has grossed $110.3 million worldwide, with $10 million domestically in its second weekend. With a production budget of just $18 million, the film turned profitable almost immediately. The domestic split stands at $43.7 million, while international markets contributed $66.6 million (via Box Office Mojo).
These box office numbers remain significantly behind 2023’s Insidious: The Red Door, which accumulated $296 million globally. Nevertheless, recent profitability demonstrates that the franchise remains commercially viable amid horror’s ongoing box-office boom. All signs point toward Sony greenlighting Insidious 7, though no official announcement has materialized yet.
The film premiered at AMC The Grove 14 in Los Angeles on August 18, 2026, before Sony Pictures Releasing opened it theatrically across the United States three days later. Critics gave generally mixed reviews, but audiences demonstrated enough interest to sustain momentum.
Jacob Chase wrote and directed the picture, which stars Amelia Eve, Brandon Perea, and Maisie Richardson-Sellers. Lin Shaye reprised her longstanding role from previous entries. The plot follows a young woman capable of interacting with spirits and bringing them into the mortal world, who soon attracts malevolent forces.
Chase’s relationship with Blumhouse Atomic Monster continues beyond this franchise. The production company announced that his next project, Sleepover, will hit theaters on October 8, 2027. Universal Pictures had already reserved that date for an untitled Blumhouse Atomic Monster release. Chase will direct from a screenplay he co-wrote with Bryce McGuire, based on McGuire’s original short story.
Out of the Further opened to $60.3 million worldwide during its first weekend. That debut pushed the 16-year-old PG-13 franchise past $800 million in cumulative global box office. Aside from James Wan’s 2010 original, this installment now ranks as the second-best-received entry among critics.
