Universal Studios Hollywood has set the opening date for its newest high-speed attraction. Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will bring the film franchise’s racing action to a major new roller coaster.
The attraction will open to guests on September 16, 2026, on the park’s Upper Lot. It marks Universal Studios Hollywood’s first outdoor, high-speed roller coaster.
Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift’s speed, vehicles and ride features
The coaster reaches speeds of up to 72 mph across 4,100 feet of track. Riders will experience four launches, an inverted dive loop, a pretzel loop, and an inverted stall. The ride can also reach forces of up to 3.6 Gs.
Its four ride vehicles are modeled after cars from the franchise. Guests can ride a Dodge Charger, Mazda RX-7, Nissan Skyline GT-R, or Toyota Supra. Each vehicle rotates independently and includes its own audio system with matching engine and sound effects.
The attraction uses a dual-launching, split-track system that sends trains through different sections. Its track also passes over and under parts of the park’s multilevel Starway escalator.
The queue continues the franchise theme with recreated props from several films. Displays include the vault truck from Fast Five, Letty’s motorcycle from F9, and the rolling bomb from Fast X.
Some exhibits include QR codes that link to additional behind-the-scenes information via Universal’s Backlot Club.
The coaster sits inside a large red brick garage-style structure. Part of its track also runs through a transparent section beside the queue, allowing waiting guests to see trains in motion. Universal Creative incorporated the hillside into the coaster’s design. The elevated setting gives riders views across the San Fernando Valley, the studio lot, and the theme park.
Guests must store loose belongings in complimentary lockers before riding. Metal detection will also be required before entering the ride platform.
The attraction arrives as the Fast & Furious franchise celebrates its 25th anniversary. A new film, Fast Forever, is scheduled for release in theaters in March 2028.
