Apple TV is joining the wave of several other streaming platforms, and raising the price of its subscription service.
In a recent announcement, Apple revealed that Apple TV subscriptions will now cost $14.99 per month, a $2 raise from its previous $12.99 price. Annual plan prices are also going up as a result, from $99.99 per year to $119.99 per year. The price increase is effective immediately for new members, with existing members notified of the move this week.
For those who subscribe to Apple’s “Apple One” subscription, which bundles together things like Apple Music, Apple TV, and Apple Arcade, that price will also go up. Previously $19.95 per month, the bundle will now be priced at $21.95 per month, a $2 increase to reflect Apple TV’s price hike.
Apple TV’s price hike follows suit with other competitors
While Apple TV had usually been known as one of the cheaper streaming options compared to some of its competitors, that is no longer the case. After originally launching in 2019 at just $4.99 per month, the streaming service has slowly raised its pricing, and is now a full $10 more expensive than it was just seven years ago.
The service is still on the lower end compared to some options like Netflix, but fans are not happy about the sudden move to increase pricing, especially after it just did so last year.
To its credit, Apple TV has been praised over the last few years for its TV and movie offerings. The service has hits like Ted Lasso, The Studio, Widow’s Bay, Severance, and Pluribus in its library. As for movies, Apple TV continues to invest in original content, with films like F1, F1, Coda, Causeway, Tetris, and more all having been produced by Apple TV.
