The Eternals may finally return to the MCU. According to a fresh rumor, the team could reportedly play a role in the first major crossover of Marvel‘s next era.
A fan account on X(Twitter) recently asked in a post, “Will we ever actually see the Eternals again? Will they ever even be mentioned?” Reacting to the query, Scooper James Mack wrote, “The first crossover event of the next saga will involve the Eternals, bro.”
Previously, Mack also claimed that the next saga could involve a Judgment Day crossover. However, neither claim has been confirmed by Marvel Studios.
The claim is worth noting because the Eternals have not received a sequel since their 2021 debut. The team has still been referenced in the MCU, especially through Tiamut in Captain America: Brave New World. Marvel has not announced another Eternals movie or confirmed the team’s return.
What happened in the 2021 Eternals movie?
Marvel Studios’ Eternals introduced a group of ancient aliens who secretly protected Earth for thousands of years. The team included Sersi, Ikaris, Kingo, Thena, Druig, Makkari, Phastos, Ajak, Gilgamesh, and Sprite. They reunited after the emergence of the Deviants and a new threat to Earth.
The story revealed that Earth was being used to grow a Celestial named Tiamut. The Eternals eventually stopped the process, preventing Tiamut from emerging and destroying the planet. Ikaris died after flying into the Sun, while Sersi, Phastos, and Kingo remained on Earth.
The ending left several characters in uncertain situations. Arishem arrived and took Sersi, Phastos, and Kingo for judgment after learning they had stopped the emergence. Meanwhile, Thena, Makkari, and Druig left Earth with Eros to search for their missing teammates. The film also introduced Eros (played by Harry Styles) in its mid-credits scene.
The comic storyline A.X.E.: Judgment Day involved the Avengers, X-Men, and Eternals in a major conflict. That connection may explain why the rumor has drawn attention, but there is currently no official link between that comic event and an upcoming MCU project.
Right now, Mack’s claim remains unconfirmed. Marvel has yet to announce when or how the Eternals will return.
