Chase Stokes reveals he battled body dysmorphia and intense scrutiny during his Outer Banks run
Chase Stokes opened up about his struggles while discussing his body transformation for the final season of Outer Banks. Stokes revealed he battled body dysmorphia during a press event of his hit series.
He said the body transformation was both a physical “metamorphosis” and emotional. Stokes said, “I’ve always kind of struggled with body dysmorphia. I’ve gone through a lot of scrutiny and a lot of condescending stuff on the internet over the years about my body, and it’s really messed with my mental health at times.”
When asked whether he feels at home in his body, he said, “Fully, yeah. I’ve always kind of struggled with body dysmorphia. The internet falls in love with the blonde-haired boy with the six-pack abs and then wonders why I don’t always look like that.”
According to Men’s Health, he also shared that he is excited for the fresh start. Stokes said, “It’s been nice to leave that because that character has been put to bed. Now, we get to start fresh, and we get to build something that is really cool and entirely different.”
Stokes added that with the character put to rest, it’s “nice” to not face scrutiny. He added, “It’s been nice to not have that constant comparison and contrast because that character has been put to bed.”
The Thunder Road AMC star shared that he can focus more on work when he doesn’t have to worry about aesthetics.
He also shared that he has a “personal professional team” including a chef, trainer, life coach, and a therapist to support his mental health.
Chase Stokes played John B. Routledge in Outer Banks, where his character leads a tight-knit group of friends. During his time on the hit series, he often faced scrutiny over his physical appearance.
