Luke Wilson revealed that fame hasn’t mellowed his family’s football debates one bit. The actor said he and brothers, Owen and Andrew, still get fired up over the Dallas Cowboys.
The Wilson brothers grew up in Dallas, where Cowboys fandom was practically part of childhood. Decades later, their loyalty remained intact, even when their NFL predictions clashed.

Speaking with PEOPLE, Luke recalled visiting Owen’s house before the upcoming football season. Andrew was also there, and the conversation quickly turned toward their beloved team.
“Those guys get into— not an argument about the Dallas Cowboys, but it felt like a pleasantly heated discussion,” Luke said. The debate eventually ended with a bet over the team’s predicted win-loss record.
Luke, Owen, and Andrew all began acting during the 1990s. They also appeared together in the 1996 comedy Bottle Rocket. Yet football remained one of the family’s longest-running shared passions.
“It is so funny that here we are, all these years later, still Cowboys fans,” Luke told the outlet. He remembered growing up and noticing classmates with Cowboys jerseys, lunchboxes, and game-day stories.
“Dallas was a smaller town then, but it was a pillar of the city — and it still is,” he added.
Luke’s lifelong football obsession also made his latest gig a natural fit. The 54-year-old starred as Fanatics’ “Mayor of Fandom” in its new campaign.
The “Fanatics Town Hall” campaign featured NFL legend Calvin Johnson, retired NBA star Baron Davis, and gymnast Livvy Dunne. It promoted FanCash, which fans could earn and use across merchandise and events.
Luke said his athletic background helped him navigate acting sets. “I always feel like having played sports helps me in what I do,” he explained. He believed sports taught people that every team member’s role mattered.
As a new father, Luke also hoped his daughter with girlfriend Kendall Yates would play sports. He said staying active was especially important amid children’s increasing exposure to electronics.
Luke also praised his athlete co-stars for their comedic instincts. He found Davis particularly impressive and even suggested they should make a movie together someday.
