Holly Marie Combs explains why she quietly stepped away from acting after 2019
On her The House of Halliwell podcast, Holly Marie, 52, opened up about her reason for quitting acting. Scout Taylor Compton, who joined the podcast for a conversation, asked Combs, “What made you leave the industry? Is it just family like it was?”
The Charmed star said, “It was a lot of family. During COVID, we had three teenagers. Well, there were three teenagers and a preteen in the house, and it was just mayhem and chaos.” She revealed that many of the roles that were coming her way did not appeal to her.
Combs explained that the job pool in Hollywood became smaller, which contributed to her decision.
She added, “The stuff that I was getting and coming across my desk was just nothing that I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is really great. I need to do this.’ And being in, you know, that 40 to 50 range, the job pool gets even smaller and smaller. And I feel like the roles get a little less interesting.”
While speaking about the possibility of her return, Combs said, “I miss it occasionally because…there’s those moments when you’re involved, and you’re acting, and you’re working that are just, I think it’s like being present. That’s what escapism is. And we get to escape into this different character with a different set of situations than our own life. And there is something about being in that moment that is quite peaceful, even if you’re doing something highly dramatic.”
The actress has been living with her husband, Mike Ryan, and her three children, according to Just Jared. The Pretty Little Liars alum has not appeared in any acting project since 2019. She last appeared in an episode of Grey’s Anatomy.
