Jake Reiner has broken his silence eight months after the deaths of his parents, Michele and Rob Reiner. In his first sit-down interview, the eldest son of the legendary film director described the past eight months as a “living nightmare.” His younger brother, 32-year-old Nick Reiner, has been accused of murdering their parents and faces two counts of murder.

Speaking with KABC-TV’s Mark Cota-Robles, the 35-year-old opened up about the tragedy in a segment that aired on Good Morning America on August 27, according to People. He described his parents’ relationship with their children, saying, “My parents had unconditional love for all three of us.” The couple shared three biological children: Jake, Nick, and Romy, 28.
Jake detailed, “It’s been 8 months. It feels like 8 years at the same time. And it also feels like 8 minutes. Because every moment that I wake up, I’m reminded of my reality.” He shared how Romy’s phone call was the first moment he learned what had happened. “Romy told me our dad was dead, and then she said, ‘I can’t find mom,’” he said.
The interview comes after Jake and his sister, Romy, testified before a Los Angeles grand jury in the case against their brother, Nick Reiner. Prosecutors allege that Nick killed his parents inside their Brentwood home on December 14, 2025. Romy discovered their bodies. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Rob and Michele died from multiple sharp-force injuries. Authorities arrested Nick hours later near the University of Southern California.
Nick remains jailed without bail at Los Angeles’ Twin Towers Correctional Facility. He has pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder. He also denied the special circumstance allegations of multiple murders and murder by lying in wait. Prosecutors further allege that he personally used a knife in the killings. Reiner is scheduled to appear in court for a pretrial hearing on September 15.
