Coyote vs. Acme Director Settles Road Runner’s ‘Beep’ vs. ‘Meep’ Debate

Coyote vs. Acme director Dave Green has settled the debate over whether the Road Runner says “beep” or “meep.” The answer came while Green was discussing the movie’s unusual choir recording.

During an interview with ComingSoon’s Tyler Treese, Green was asked about the choir and its recordings of the Road Runner’s sounds. Green said composer Steven Price came up with the idea for the recording. The London Voices then spent an entire day recording the sounds for the movie.

The 43-year-old director said, “There was an argument, by the way, that we settled in the recording session on whether it was ‘meep’ or ‘beep.’ We do know that factually it is ‘beep.'”

Green also revealed how the choir responded when the filmmakers asked for its opinion on the pronunciation. He added, “Well, yeah. The choir did a vote, and we said, ‘Well, what do you think the Road Runner says?’ Everyone except for one person said it is ‘meep.’ But it’s technically ‘beep.’ It’s okay because sometimes it sounds like ‘meep,’ but it is spelled ‘beep’ in the movie. So I think we’ve gotten away with it. We’ll see.”

What else do we know about the Coyote vs. Acme movie?

Coyote vs. Acme follows Wile E. Coyote after another series of failed Acme products leads to disaster. He turns to lawyer Kevin Avery for help taking the company to court. Will Forte plays Kevin, while John Cena stars as Acme attorney Buddy Crane.

Lana Condor also stars as Paige, Kevin’s niece. The cast also includes several other performers alongside the animated Looney Tunes characters. The movie blends live-action and animation as Wile E. pursues his legal case against Acme.

Dave Green directed the movie from a screenplay by Samy Burch. James Gunn, Jeremy Slater, and Burch developed the story based on Ian Frazier’s 1990 New Yorker piece. Warner Bros. originally shelved the completed movie in 2023, before Ketchup Entertainment acquired the film’s distribution rights.

Coyote vs. Acme is scheduled to arrive in theaters on August 28, 2026. The release will give the long-delayed project its theatrical debut.
