Dolly Parton, Iconic Singer & 9 to 5 Star, Passes Away

Legendary country music artist and actress Dolly Parton passed away on August 25, 2026. She was 80 years old.

Parton died peacefully in Nashville, Tennessee, according to an official announcement from a rep. The cause of death has not been announced yet. The singer’s nephew and longtime head of security, Bryan Seaver, confirmed the news via an Instagram post.

“Hey everyone, my name is Bryan Seaver, son of Cassie Parton, and I am representing the Parton and Owens family today, announcing the passing of my Aunt Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean,” Seaver said. “Sister, sis, Aunt Granny to one generation and Gigi to the next.”

“This video announcement is something Dolly asked of me years ago before I fully absorbed it as a future reality,” Seaver continued. “As her head of security for more than two decades, a role my father Larry held before me, I have imagined the heaviness of this moment but haven’t truly felt it until now.”

He added, “It is an honor, an honor that is mixed with absolute pride and great sadness. But sadness lies with us, not with Dolly. Dolly has lived in the light and is in the arms of Jesus, surely met by Carl, her parents, and countless others who have watched her and longed to meet her in the heavens.”

Following an emotional tribute to Parton’s memory, Seaver concluded, “Rest in peace, Aunt Dolly — Aunt, Granny, Gigi. May God bless Dolly Parton, and may God bless you all. She will always love you.”

Considered the “Queen of Country,” Dolly Parton was one of the most influential performers in history, with a stellar career spanning seven decades. She had written and recorded a plethora of memorable chart-toppers. These include ”I Will Always Love You,” “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors,” and “9 to 5.” In addition to being a phenomenal vocalist, Parton has left her mark in Hollywood as well. She starred in films such as 9 to 5 (1980), Steel Magnolias (1989), and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982).
