Reports from The Hollywood Reporter shared that Williams will cover Thursday and Friday rounds at Atlanta’s East Lake Golf Club. The event marks the final tournament of the 2026 FedExCup Playoffs. He will work alongside Colin Swatton during the opening 36 holes. The pair will follow each round’s marquee group.
The upcoming appearance will mark Williams’ third PGA Tour broadcasting role. He previously appeared at the 2024 Tour Championship. He also commentated during the 2025 FedEx St. Jude Championship. Now, he is returning for another chance to follow professional golfers up close.
Williams described that opportunity as “a joy” during his interview with the Hollywood Reporter. He also explained why good commentary matters to golf fans. “The great ones really bridge that gap,” Williams said. He added that he planned to help create that connection for viewers.
However, Williams is not only interested in talking about golf. His own game has reportedly improved significantly. He credited his short game and driver consistency for his progress. He also said he had been taking home “hardware” from various pro-am tournaments.
Williams now has his sights set beyond amateur competitions. He said he believes he could still play professionally. “I think I still have the ability — and the age — to still play professionally,” Williams said. He also said achieving that goal could open other opportunities.
His handicap has also reportedly dropped by eight strokes since their previous conversation. Williams said he currently has an 11 handicap. He hoped to cut another eight strokes from that number. Lessons could also help him continue improving his game.
For now, Williams will focus on watching the professionals. He will also bring his comedic perspective to the broadcast. His preferred marquee pairing would even include contrasting performances. Williams joked that he would love “a -6 with a +6.”
The Tour Championship coverage featuring Williams begins Thursday at 11 a.m. ET. It will stream through the ESPN app. Williams’ unusual path from comedian to golf correspondent continues to grow.
