C. Thomas Howell‘s 2020 creature feature, Beast Mode, is now streaming on Hulu. The film, a comedy horror, also stars Twin Peaks alum Ray Wise, along with Leslie Easterbrook, James Hong, and James Duval. The film received some praise from critics, who applauded it’s B-Movie charm and the wacky premise that managed to deliver laughs and spooks alike.
James Duval of Donnie Darko fame features in the film in a double role, while Chris W. Freeman and Spain Willingham helmed the film as co-directors. The duo, along with Drew Fortune, also handled writing responsibilities on the feature.

Beast Mode’s official synopsis reads, “A Hollywood agent accidentally kills his only client, and in desperation, he turns to a herbal remedy that is reputed to resurrect the dead. But the cure comes with deadly consequences.”
C. Thomas Howell essays the role of Hollywood agent Breen Nash, whose career seems to be on its last leg. Betting it all on a horror movie called Beast Moon, things go haywire when he accidentally backs into the lead of his movie, played by Duval. While there is a double available, he has some acne scars that ought to be fixed. Nash turns to a herbal remedy, which at first has magical results. However, as fame gets to the double’s head, the herbal cream begins manifesting its magical side effects.
Twin Peaks star Ray Wise plays a crucial role in the film, but boasts a smaller screen time than some of the other, less recognizable faces in the production.
The movie was made available on Hulu from August 23, 2026. It joined Hulu’s August slate, which included other offerings, such as 2024’s Greedy People, Imaginary, 2025’s Violent Ends, and 2023’s All of Us Strangers, among others.
