Girlfriends is set to leave Netflix next month. According to What’s on Netflix, all eight seasons of the Tracee Ellis Ross-led comedy will be removed from the streaming service on September 11, 2026.
Created by Mara Brock Akil, Girlfriends premiered on September 11, 2000, and ran for eight seasons before concluding on February 11, 2008. The comedy follows four close friends in Los Angeles as they navigate their careers, relationships, and personal challenges while relying on one another for support.
Joan is a successful lawyer who later pursues a career in the restaurant business, while her personal life becomes increasingly complicated. Toni builds a career in real estate but also deals with the difficulties of divorce and single motherhood.
Maya works as Joan’s assistant while managing her own relationship and family responsibilities. Meanwhile, Lynn, a free-spirited student, takes a less conventional approach to work and adulthood.
Despite their differences, the four women remain closely connected as they deal with romantic setbacks, career changes and personal conflicts. The cast includes Tracee Ellis Ross as Joan Clayton, Golden Brooks as Maya Wilkes, Persia White as Lynn Searcy, Jill Marie Jones as Toni Childs, Reggie Hayes as William Dent, and Keesha Sharp as Monica Charles Brooks-Dent.
The first season has a 40 percent critics’ rating and a 69 percent audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. “With its sharp writing and well-acted characters, this show is a true-to-life take on female friendships in the 21st century,” Common Sense Media reported.
